b. 1827, d. 12/22/1872
Husband of (1)  Barbara Delfina Neves & (2)  Josefa Maria de Brito                                                       da Lapa Matrimonios 1866 - 1886 - 22/ - On ??? 1871, Joao Jose da Cruz (widower of Barbara Delfina Neves) 43, md Josefa Maria de Brito 33 (d/o Joaquim Domingas Santiago & Maria Francisca de ?).  The witnesses were Antonio Aurelio d' Assencao & Carlos Miguel Rodrigues.  
da Lapa Obits 1871 - 1876  - 14/16, On 12/22/1872, Joao Jose da Cruz drowned in the sea, at around 2 o'clock in the afternon, in the bay of Ribeira Alta, 45y & the h/o Josefa Maria de Brito.  He had 3 children.  The witnesses were Joao Mathias ?Gomes, md & Estevao Vicente Alves, md. (Also 38/  it says that on 7/7/1876 a Joao Jose da Cruz, no age given drowned, h/o Josefa Maria de Brito - This was an "affirmation" - see below.). 
da Lapa Obits 1871 - 1876 - 38/no number.  On 7/7/1876, Josefa Maria de Brito, widow of Joao Jose da Cruz sought an affirmation from the Church that he had drowned (andando a pesca) on 12/22/1872  
(2)  Jose Antonio Soares, was b. in SN in 1847, FSCR, SN, N Sra da Lapa, Obits 1871 - 1876, 14/18, In 12/1872, Jose Antonio Soares died at 25y, he was a "pescadora"/ fisherman and he drowned (afogado).  The fact of his death was attested to by Joao Matias Gomes & Estevao Vincente Alves.
 (3)  Antonio Martinho Lopes drowned on 12/22/1872.  FSCR SN N Sra daL 14/17, single, the fact of his death was attested to by Joao Mathias Gomes and Estevao Vicente Alves.

Anna Maria Lopes was b in 1840 in Sao Nicolau, wife  of Domingos Manoel da Silva, daughter of Serafim Antonio Gomes & Maria Francisca Lopes.  da Lapa, Obits 1871 - 1876, On 12/20/1874, Anna Maria Lopes died at 34y, she drowned, wife of Domingos Manoel da Silva, daughter of Serafim Antonio Gomes & Maria Francisca Lopes.  Jose Marcelino Soares & Jose Manoel dos Reis attested to the facts of her death. 

Joao Jose da Cruz -da Lapa, Obits 1871 - 1876, On 7/7/1876, Joao Jose da Cruz died, 45y, h/o Josefa Maria de Brito, afogado/drowned "andando a pesca"   EDIT THIS B/C HE IS ALREADY IN 1872 - SHE MAY HAVE SOUGHT A REAFFIRMATION OF HER HUSBAND'S DEATH.

Manoel Antonio Gomes -  da Lapa, Obits 1871 - 1876.  12/ - , On 4/27/1877, Manoel Antonio Gomes, single, marinheiro/seaman, drowned/afogado.  The fact of his death was attested to by Manoel Miguel d' Andrade, Joao Colino, Francisco Luiz Segueira (single), & Manoel Julio Duarte.

1885
Manoel, a child of 3y, died on 10/29/1885 when he "afogado no tanque d' agua" / drowned in a tank of water.  He was the son of Gertrudes Isabel Duarte of Carvoeiros. 

1899
Carolina Maria Almeida
b.  3/20/1878, d. 6/14/1899
Daughter of  Antonio Jose Almeida & Maria Rosa Alves (not married at the time of the baptism)
da Lapa Baptisms 1875 - 1895 - 127/33 - On 4/14/1878, Carolina was baptized, b. 3/20/1878, d/o Maria Rosa Alves (d/o Antonio Jose Almeida & Rosa Anna Alves), godparents - Antonio Domingos Gregorio & Maria Archangela da Conceicao. (352/33) ;     da Lapa Obits 1890 - 1901   - 119/25, On 6/14/1899, Carolina Maria Almeida died at 22y, single, of Fanja, drowned, her body was found in the Mar Na Bahia do Locacao, (d/o Maria Rosa Alves), she was fished out of the sea by a fisherman named Francisco Jose Goncalves.
