This blog contains photos of Cape Verdeans who lived in New Bedford, Massachusetts from (approximately) 1920 to the present.
new note:
I have been away from this blog for almost three years. During that time I have learned how to read church records that were written in Portuguese. I now have a compilation of about 3000 pages which centers on folks from Sao Nicolau who immigrated to New Bedford. Church records can be found at Family Search (Mormon site). Look for Catholic Church Records - Cape Verde Islands.
I have decided to highlight certain folks or incidences from the islands or things related to the voyage from the islands here. Also, information about New Bedford CV core Snook families: Soares/Tolentino, dos Santos, Varella, de Almeida, Encarnacao, da Cruz, Josefa (from Santo Antao).
In addition, I will continue to add photos of CV's in New Bedford.
And even some little blurbs about how it was growing up in the CV community.
This work adds to and compliments my Index of CV Catholic church translations --focusing on Sao Nicolau, Boa Vista, Santo Antao & Sao Vicente I learned how to read Portuguese as written by priests as I translated so make sure to check each record yourself. The most recent translations are, obviously, better.

Purpose of this Blog
New Bedford kids - all generations - all years - random photos
The child on the left is me, Carol Haynes. Tall child is Sandra Liv.... Gr.... Small crying girl is Jacquelyn "Sister" R., Boy is Wayne R. Photo taken by my dad who was an amateur photographer. The Santos and the Livramentos and the family of Sunshine Ramos were all very close. Also the Nereu/Almeidas and the Soares and the Duarte family who operated a child care center. In addition, Canja, the Diniz family ........
Carol & Pat.
I am in front, and Wayne R. has his hand on my shoulder. Not sure who the two girls are.
Me at my first home, 144 Purchase Street.
Mikele & Troy - 323 Purchase Street, New Bedford - camera is facing downtown & they are facing the beach/levees.
with our mom, Nita, on thew way to Martha's Vineyard. We must have driven to Oak Bluffs and then gone over on the ferry. We actually stayed in one of the tiny houses (notwithstanding segregation or at least difficulty in getting one of those houses). My dad had "connections" who probably booked it for him.
"Sister" R. now operates a child care center in NB.
Two gorgeous kids that my sister babysat for -- Kyle and his sister. Kyle must have been born in 69.
