Ways to research Cape Verdeans in the islands and in the US

(1)  Naturalization Records are available for some people on ancestry.com
(2)  Family Search Church Records - Catholic Church Records - Cape Verde - has church records for all of the islands.  They include marriage, baptism, and death records.  There are no Birth Certificates.  Instead the birth date will be given in the baptismal record.
Baptismal records will give the child's name, date of birth, hour of birth, parent's names, grandparent's names, and godparent's names.
Marriage records will give the names and ages of the bride and groom, whether they were single or widowed, their occupations, their parents names, usually the village in which they lived, and the names of the two witnesses (which seemed to always be men).
Death records will give the names of the decedent, date of death, sometimes how many children they had, age at death, parent's names.
(3)  Census Records
(4)  World War I and II Draft Registration Cards
(5)  Immigration Records/Ship Manifests
(6)  US City Directories
(7)  Court Records
(8)  Cemetery Visits - St. John's Cemetery in New Bedford - the church office has records.
(9)  Newspapers
(11) Visit to New Bedford Library and Whaling Museum
