Family Search Catholic Church Records for Sao Nicolau Nossa Senhora da Lapa, has a tab which is entitled "Obits 1890 - 1901".  It is far from that, however.

This is my grandmother's altar on Purchase Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts.  Although she died around 1973 the altar was still there in 2020. But the house was sold in the summer of 2021.

Part One
Page One of 144 pages is a cover page & indicates that the information covers January 15, 1890 to July 15, 1890.
Page Two is the beginning of this 1890 section & it begins on 2/1 with Nicolau and it ends at 8/19 with Alberto.
Part Two
Page Nine is another cover page which indicates that the information covers January 31, 1891 to November 10, 1891. 
Page Ten is the beginning of this 1891 section & it begins at 10/1 with Jose Antonio Custodio and ends at page 18. 
Part Three
Page 19 is a cover page & indicates that the information covers 1/21897 - 12/31/1897
Part Four
Page 55 starts a new section which covers 1897.
So ....BEWARE ----- because one complete set of 1897 begins on page 19 & another complete set of 1897 (with different names and dates) begins on page 55 & ends on page 91.  The only thing that I can imagine was that maybe there was a record at two locations or that one priest was itinerant.  Nevertheless you have to look in BOTH places.  RW of Portugal indicates that TWO sets of books were always maintained. The second book, then, would attempt to be a COPY of the original.  So in this case there should be FOUR books for 1897.  The originals (two) & the copies (two).  RW indicated that, in fact, the copies were almost never true copies of the original.  

1890 should be able to be found in Volume 1874 - 1896. However, that volume only has about 211 pages -- as follows:       page 130 is the cover page for 1/29/1888 - 7/14/1888

1891 should be able to be found in Volume -----   should be in the Volume 1874 - 1896,

1892 can be found in Volume ----- should be in the Volume 1874 - 1896  However, that volume only has about 211 pages -- as follows:       page 130 is the cover page for 1/29/1888 - 7/14/1888

1893 can be found in Volume  ----   should be in the Volume 1874 - 1896, However, that volume only has about 211 pages -- as follows: page 130 is the cover page for 1/29/1888 - 7/14/1888

1894 -- Volume 1890 - 1901 does not contain 1894 death records.  Volume 1874 - 1896 should contain records for this year, However, that volume only has about 211 pages -- as follows:  page 130 is the cover page for 1/29/1888 - 7/14/1888

 1895  - Volume 1890 - 1901 may or may not contain 1895 records but there is a separate tab for 1895 death records which is Volume 1895  Also, 1895 should be in the Volume 1874 - 1896, However, that volume only has about 211 pages -- as follows:       page 130 is the cover page for 1/29/1888 - 7/14/1888
