SOARES - TOLENTINO and SOARES DA LUZ

I previously had a lot of information on the Soares who became Tolentino but somehow lost it --- though it may be on my old computer.

The family of Nicolau Joaquim Soares Tolentino & Maria Josefina (de Brito) Fermino

 

Nicolau was the son of Joaquim Soares Moreno & Maria Joanna Soares, b. 1852. 

1894 --     doRMats1885-93 -  449/ OR 49/24 - On 6/7/1894, Nicolau Joaquim Soares Tolentino single came before the Church to "confess" to the fact that he had been in a long term relationship with Maria Josephina Fermino (x) single & that he wanted to take her as his legitimate wife.  In addition, they had five children - Francisco 11, Amelia 9, Anna 7, Maria 4, & Jose, 1y. & RW reviewed this & she says "The man, Nicolau Joaquim Soares Tolentino was "in articulo mortis" (at the point of death) & he wanted to confess his sins for God to pardon him.  So b/c he had been living with Maria Josefina Fermino for eleven years & they were not married he wanted now to marry her & legitimize the children, the witnesses were Antonio Joao de Almeida (     ), Miguel Rodrigues Soares & Antonio Manoel da Costa (     ), Nicolau was 42y (s/o Joaquim Soares Moreno & Maria Joanna Soares (both d)).  Maria Josefa was 27, d/o Josefina Maria de Brito (     ).  Maria had been legitimated by her father, Jose Pedroso Fermino"   RW went on to say that "Tolentino is a place in central Italy & there was a Saint named Nicolau Tolentino, the reason why so many people named Nicolau also add Tolentino to their name"
